Tom, Task 1

Zed Nelson-Gun Nation:

Some of these images really disturbed me, Zed nelson has studied the Gun Nation in America. All these images  have certain similar aspects about them, they are all in black and white and all based on the theme of guns. I think Zed Nelson is trying to show how easy it is to get a gun and how comfortable the people are with guns even though they can have really bad consequences. most of the images aren't staged, and look like everyday life. He wrote a book about it that was published in 2009. Most of these images came from: http://archive.instituteartistmanagement.com/offer/153

August Sander- 20th Century Man:

August Sanders study on the 20th Century men were done in black and white and usually of the working class man. He later pit these images into a book with a study. His images are usually staged but have a natural, relaxed look to them. As well as them being staged he usually takes the photos in a background related to the subject/s in the photo. These photos came from a range of websites after looking up August Sander in a book called 50 Artists You Should know

Mathew Brady- American Civil War

Mathew Brady is most famous for documenting the American civil war, and is said to be the father of photojournalism. His images are always in black and white or in sepia. I really like his images because they aren't staged and they really catch the moment. He mainly shows death or artillery in his images. He also covered the Battle of Antietam, but i think this study was on the whole more interesting. I first found Mathew Brady in the same book as August Sander, but the images came from the web.
