Low Key (:

This lesson with Dervin, we were working in the studio on low key shots. All the shots came out really well and i really enjoyed doing it. Low key lighting in photography throws areas of an image into darkness. Giving an interesting look to the picture- with great contrasts between dark and light.

With this picture- we had a studio light to the side of camera and the stool. All low key images have a black background. We then positioned our model (Lily) to the point between the light and our camera and took the picture. This is the most simple of our low key shots.

This image was also done with a studio light to the side, but we added another one behind the model's head (Sam) to give a halo effect. The light behind Sam's head is facing the camera and looks really good. This is my favorite kind of low key shot that we've done.

This one used all the same equipment- except the light behind the model's (Ellie) head is facing the curtain instead of the camera. It gives a really nice spotlight effect.

This shot is pretty much the same as the halo effect except we used a mirror opposite the light to the side, which reflected the light onto the dark side of Lily's face. It created a very contrasted picture that looks really cool.
