Tim Task 4

I'm going to recreate the effects from the in camera effects in photoshop with images from other photographers.

This is my recreation in photoshop of the Vaseline effect. I used Gaussian blur on a copied layer of the background, the used a soft rubber, with low intensity and sharpness, to gradually fade it out.

This is my recreation on motion blur, I used the magic lasso tool to select the area I wanted to be in focus. I then inverted the selected area, and used the motion blur and a medium setting. The top picture has a higher motion blur setting, to make it look more realistic, horses are faster than cats.

These are my recreations of colour filters. I added a new layer, and then coloured it with a gradient. I tried a few different styles of gradients, a circular gradient, and the conventional straight one.

This one was really simple, I changed the curves of the image to create a more shadowed look to it, and then used the photoshop filter that is specifically for lens flare.

The vignette effect was pretty similar to the Vaseline effect, but instead of copying the the background layer and blurring it, you create a new layer and fill it in black. the rest is the same, with the rubbing out colour.

In Camera techniques are used a lot in films and TV. Because it is a lot of effort to edit them in. Bokeh is used a lot in films and TV to make the scene more glamourous. Forced perspective is used a lot in films, making the scenes look magnificent or daunting. Motion blur is used a lot in rainy films, When the images and people need to appear to be moving fast even though they might not actually be.
Forced Perspective:
Making an object seem larger, smaller, further away or closer than it actually is.

Lens Flare:
Flare is particularly caused by a very bright light sources either in the image – which produces visible artifacts – or shining into the lens but not in the image

Out Of Focus:
Set a camera off auto focus, and get really close to the subject

Vaseline Effect:
Smudge Vaseline on the camera lens to create a dream like effect.

In Camera Colour Filters:
Putting a clear colour sheet over the camera lens so it gives a colour overlay to the image

Motion Blur:
Following the subject with a low shutter speed to give motion blur

These are some of my own :D

For this first image i cut a shape out of the cling film, i like the fact that its a bit more defined than the others

For the picture above i used the vaseline on the top of the image and it looks fairly cool actually

For these two images i used a piece of cling film, and used vaseline around the edges.

This is my take on the vaseline effect

This is my attempt at colour filters in camera, my camera doesn't have them as a setting so i had to improvise x)

For this picture (first attempt) i used nail varnish on cling film

For these two, i used the colour filters from disco lights, they are great but there isn't a lot you can change about them

These are a few of the best bokeh shots I've done so far.

Tom- Evaluation

For this project I think i chose a lot of similar images, from similar photographers. Because of this I found it really hard to try and recreate the images so they look like the photographer's work, but not too similar to the other images I had taken. Because of this I focused less on what the images consisted of, because I cannot recreate a civil war, and more on how the age of the camera affected the image. Using a digital camera, I found it quite hard to create the aged look on my images, mainly because the natural grainy effect, even with photoshop, didn't look as old as I would've liked them to. I liked the look of the older grainy pictures, and as well as the white vignette effect the older photographer got. The most recent photographer was pretty easy to recreate, because it was just of everyday images and in black and white. All but one of my researched photographers were found in a book called '50 Great Photographers You Should Know.' When i was reading the book, August Sanders and Mathew Brady, really stood out to me, because they were documenting real people that were not always focused on. Zed Nelson also stood out to me, because he was photographing the normal but shocking. I really liked his style of picture, as it was simple but effective.

Dervin

I really love how my images came out :) they all look really cool, and are fairly similar to Paul Reiffer's images :D

SETUP

I changed the studio setup to a high key lighting because it linked better to my chosen artists. I used both soft-boxes and the white back drop. Again because it linked better with my artist links. When i got the settings right it came out really well as well.

Here I used the light meter, then had to play around with my camera settings before it came right.
The settings I ended using were: F.stop 1/8, Exposure 1/60 sec. and ISO 400.

These images are of my models getting ready.

Above are my raw images. I edited them (below) and the final 5 I chose are at the top of the post.
