Final pieces:

The three techniques I chose were; colour filters, vignette and Vaseline effect. I chose these particular effects because they don't overshadow the image or message we're trying to give to people. The text was added in photoshop, but the vignettes and Vaseline effects were done in camera. I added the colour filter on photoshop as well, mainly because when I used it in camera they came out blotchy and didn't look as effective.

This image above looks effective because it is simple but effectively shows the work  that college students have to do. I think the image is effective because it emphasizes the course as well as the showing the technique from the camera. I tried to leave a gap in the Vaseline to focus on the work and the camera. i think its quite effective. i think however, i could have chosen a slightly better colour filter. The blue, although calming, is rather sad and makes it seem like a bad thing. I also don't like the font i used, it is too formal which isn't like college at all.

This is my favorite of the three images because there is an aspect of humor to it. I used a black marker on top of the Vaseline for this one, and i think it came out well.  The colours all match, the text, cat and camera, making the image have a good feel to it. However i don't think it is as appropriate my other two images, even though it is the most personal of the three. I think the way the Vaseline has made the cat's stomach look like a white blob and it looks out of place, so next time I will used a little less Vaseline to make it slight more focused so that the mixing colours aren't just blobs.

This image to me, is my least favorite. the colours however i do like, they kind of represent the hectic lifestyle of a student in the sense they are miss matched and a bit odd. I don't like how the image is set out, it looks too simple compared to the hectic colours. I do like how the colours have focused on one piece of work as well as the camera lens, it draws the eye to what is important.

These 3 pictures show how an angle of a photo can change the way it looks, it make make a photo more attractive and change how the subject looks. For example a picture from above will make a person look skinnier and emphasize the face like in photos 1 and 3, where as a photo from underneath will make the subject look taller and and bigger like in photo 2. the angle of the image can make it more interesting, giving a new perspective like photo 3.

These two images compares wide angle to macro. It can really change how you see an image and macro can change your  perspective. Macro also leads your eye through the image. Your focal point is completely different between when the F. stop changes. Macro can turn a simple object (like a pack of rizzlas) into something interesting.

Tim Task 4

Health and safety:

There are a lot of health risks while doing in camera techniques, like falling over, dropping things and stuff like that.

When taking a photo with a form of cover over the lens, you should be stood still or ideally sat down, not moving. This is to avoid you tripping over anything while you camera is blurred or covered. The lights should be turned on while you're not shooting, again to stop anyone tripping over anything. Don't drop any of your equipment, it will break and could damage your foot or leg.

Tom Documentary Work

Proposal:
For this brief, I have considered a few ideas, since i live in a pub i am around people all the time. One for the Leeds 2011 project, I considered following the daily lives of customers and how alcohol effects the way people look and act. This would mean I'd have to takes pictures over a few days rather than throughout one day. My second idea was to follow my mum around for a day for the Person X. My mum works full time in the bar, and has all the duties of a bar maid as well as keeping an eye on the money, barrels and cleaning. My third thought was to follow a friend of mine called Jimmy, he works all day as well as being engaged and then has to find time to run 4 rock bands in our bar cellar. Another interesting idea i had, was a look into my boyfriend. He's had a rough past, after his father died, he got into drugs and alcohol. Because of that he has serious confidence and bipolar issues as well as serious insomnia. My Last idea was study into my friends, i have a wide range of friends who all mix together, from chavs to full on moshers. Its a really weird and interesting mix.

Final Proposal:
For my final idea, I have decided to do the 'Person X' and base it on my Mum. I want to show that living in a pub doesn't mean drinking all the time and everything is great. I want to show people that it's hard work and is a lot of strain on my mum. I want to also show how my mum's personality comes through in her work, and what makes up her days work.
I was looking at documentary photographers, and one really stood out to me. Martin Amis is a great documentary photography and I love the way he's focused on small parts of a person and their expressions. I shows us more of who they are and I love this technique. I love the effect of the daytime brightness, coupled with the really natural unstaged look, he makes really personal effective photo. I'm going to try using his techniques.

Test images:

Task 4

My test shots all link together with the same style, though they don't really show much about my mum. I think i could take a few more shots of more varied aspects of my mum's life not just the pub. I would like to take more macro shots of aspects of my mum's life like the cat and the crossword. The images also need editing and need to be shot with a less grainy look to them, so with a lower aperture or ISO.

Task 6

With our finished work, we could present in in a number of ways, like; a timeline on a black cardboard, pictures printed on a foam board, a powerpoint presentation, a college/mood board or a book from photo-box. i think i am going to use a timeline, because it shows a day in my mum's life.

Last Images:
I reused the best of my test shot and reshot the pictures i didnt like, i also edited all my images in the same way to make them look like a set. These are my final images after editing:

This is how i want to present my images once they are printed :D
